DL uru tit'Ut 1944 ’ ear <=s4_/l taru , To us, Catholic Central means much more than a name. It means an association with ideals. It means friendship. It means an understand- ing that builds love for teachers and studies. But more than all of these, it means love of God. The Catholic spirit is plainly seen at Mass in the morning and at the Chapel at noon. Here, six-hundred students come to learn Catholicity in its true meaning. For four long years we gather here; then suddenly those years seem like four short days and we are graduating. From now on our paths separate. Some of us will go on to college, others will choose the business world, and some of us will go into the armed services. But we will all be together in our memories of Central and in the furthering of our ideals. CAT - Most Reverend John F. Noll, D.D., L.L.D., Bishop of Fort Wayne Official head of administration of Catholic Central. 2W; ica tion We, the editors of the Marquette, and the Senior Class of 1944, dedicate this, the tenth annual edition of the Marquette, to our devoted parents who have given us this opportunity to become spiritually, and mentally, fine Catholic Youth. ^Jhe < Jacu(h L J Sister M. des Victoires Sister M. Ferd Melevage .Alt -About Ake Senior Clt add We're Seniors now, and we're about to turn things over to eagerly awaiting Juniors, but before we do — just a brief review of four unforgettable years. As Freshmen we were shy and a bit awkward, but then before we knew it, things were running smoothly and we found ourselves deemed ''promising'' for our work in the annual Freshman Play "The Empty Room''. Then, there was the Christmas Party. It really gave us a feeling of being "in". We wanted to prove ourselves then and did! We worked like mad for the Bazaar and we were proud because Pat Man- ion became Vice-President of the Mission Crusade. We gained poise and weren't quite so fearful of Seniors our Sophomore year. Why, they weren't so high and mighty; we'd get there yet! And there were Freshmen ■e could consider greener than ourselves. That helped a lot! We had a hand in all activities, too. Jan Baranowski and Marge Sullivan helped earn for "Don't Take My Penny" the high acclaim it received. Lots of us joined the Choral Club, Band and Or- chestra that year, too, and we were well represented in the field of athletics. Juniors— and upper-classmen! What a thrill! Why, we kidded with Seniors as tho' 'd known 'em all our life. Then came one of our greatest thrills — being allowed to take over the school paper and of keeping for it the place of honor it had won. We were fast-moving now, dauntless. Tom Dean played one of the leading roles in our school Operetta and many of us were in the Chorus. Junior B. sponsored a Canteen Dance and both boys and girls were well-established in sports. Best of all, we were allowed to make arrangements for the Junior-Senior Prom ... a privilege reserved only for Juniors. Now as Seniors we have reached our ultimate goal. We have arrived. As al- ways, we have stepped far out in the lead and stayed there. In the Tri-Opus Club, in the Operetta, Band and Orchestra, in all we have attempted, we have proved ourselves true leaders. But, we've had our chance and we've made good, so now with deepest regret, but sincerest confidence we cede our place of honor to the new Seniors. n Our CL, Offi icerA Senior A From Left To Right — Pres. And it might have been only last week that the Hi-Life Staff was so painstakingly selected. William McMillen was our representative in the C.S.M.C. and we were proud, too, of Tom Halton and Jack McDonough who wrote the words for the school's basketball song. Besides this, thirty-three of us sang in the Choral Club, one hundred and two were active in the Tri-Opus, while in sports, thirteen of us were on the football squad and six of us were on the basketball varsity. And now as we leave for another summer vacation we are filled with an inner glow of satisfaction with our junior year. I. Alger J. Alishio D. Atkinson J. Austgen J. Bazar J. Beiriger E. Beiriger K. A number of them were accepted into the Choral Club and several boys were on the football team. When the basketball season opened, the sophomores were right on the job. Frank Paunicka represented us on the Varsity and there were four sophomores in there plug- ging for our "B" team. The sophomore girls contributed four teams to the school basketball league and quite a number of our girls were considered as varsity material. In the annual operetta our class was well represented with Jeanette Patterson play- ing one of the leads and eleven other sophomores in the singing and dancing choruses. The sophomores uncovered their hidden talents for the Freshman-Sophomore Amateur Show, which was held in April. On the whole, it has been a very successful year for our class and we are look- ing forward to an even more successful one next year. J. Anderson V. Angel M. Austgen H. Baginski F. Bartz J. Berg R. We entertained the school with our antics on Freshman Initiation Day. There were various shades of clothing worn, all green!! Our Freshman Christmas parties were ever so much fun and they helped us all to get acquainted with one another. And last, but not least, we really went all out for the Tri-Opus Sophomore-Fresh- man Amateur Show in April. If the next three years are anything like this last one, you can really see why we are waiting for them so eagerly. J. Adams R. Augustine A. Bajusz E. Bader I. Barlog V. Barlog H. Benacka D.
